Tell the Los Angeles Public Library Not to Censor Palestinians!
The Los Angeles Public Library organized an author talk with award-winning children’s book authors Jenan Matari and Nora Lester Murad.
Library administration abruptly cancelled the event because they didn’t like the way that Jenan protested the genocide of Palestinians on social media.
This is censorship!
Public libraries are supposed to protect information and make it accessible to the public, not decide who can speak based on the library’s political preferences.
The cancellation communicates to Palestinian, Arab, Muslim, anti-Zionist Jewish and other patrons who oppose genocide that they are not welcome at the Los Angeles Public Library.
Censorship dehumanizes Palestinians!
Drop the ADL from Schools sponsored a letter-writing campaign with the co-sponsorship of American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC), Jewish Voice for Peace, CAIR-Greater Los Angeles, US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, and Saphron Initiative. Thousands of letters have been generated to the City Librarian, Board of Library Commissioners, and the Library Foundation.
