Get the ADL out of your school.

Advocacy Tool Kit

In all social justice work, the objectives and tactics need to be modified for your own circumstances, and these circumstances change as you build power and face pushback. Here  are some suggestions to consider as you develop your own approach. If you need support, be in touch and we’ll try to help. If you develop new materials or try new strategies or approaches, please let us know so that we can share with others doing similar work in other areas.

This toolkit will develop over time in response to your requests.

It consists of:

  1. Strategic Considerations for your Local “Drop the ADL from Schools” Campaign
Each local campaign to DropTheADL from Schools will need to be customized. This is a series of considerations you can use to build a strong effective campaign in your area.

  2. Sample Letter to Policy Makers
This sample letter can be edited for your principal, superintendent, state education officials, school board, PTA or other policymakers. You can customize it for your local context, add links, and provide resources that support your demands.

  3. If We Drop the ADL, Who Can We Call for Help?
This is a document you can hand to educators and administrators who are looking for alternatives to the ADL. It explains why and how schools should approach replacing the ADL’s programming, curriculum, professional development, and consulting services. It provides vetting criteria to help select credible, principled resources on racism and antisemitism.

  4. Resources for Expanding Your School’s Expertise in Antiracist and Social Justice Pedagogy
Antiracist and social justice curriculum will be more effective if developed by schools that build their own expertise in the field. This will also make schools less dependent on external advisors who may not be credible and may not be genuinely working to advance social justice. This list provides ideas and suggestions to support schools and educators on their learning journeys.

  5. Recommended Readings
A curated list of readings to support your organizing.

  6. Toolkit for Defending K-12 Teachers and Librarians Against False Accusations of Antisemitism
Prepare for backlash before you start organizing. Share it with your union, administrators, parent allies, and local activists.

  7. Campaign Materials:
